Dear WFCA Coaches:
As a member of the WFCA, you and your forensic team are invited to participate in the 38th annual WFCA State Coaches’ Tournament to be held on Saturday, April 19, 2008 at RIPON COLLEGE We look forward to another outstanding experience in Ripon – the birthplace of the National Forensic League!!
ENTRIES: Through your WFCA membership, you are entitled to one team consisting of no more than twenty-five (25) total entries. PLEASE confirm availability and commitment with your students. Please check for conflicting dates, ACT tests, etc. as well. We remind you that you may have three (3) drops after the registration deadline (Monday, April 14, 2008) without penalty; any additional drops will be assessed $5.00 each, payable prior to invitation to next year’s tournament. Unreported drops are assessed a $10.00 charge. PLEASE – NO SUBSTITUTIONS AFTER WEDNESDAY, APRIL 16, 2008.
ABSOLUTELY NO ADDS WILL BE ACCEPTED ON THE DAY OF THE TOURNAMENT!
PLEASE NOTE: NO MULTIPLE (DOUBLE, TRIPLE, ETC.) ENTRIES!!!!
Team sweepstakes awards will again be presented to the top 6 schools in 3 divisions this year, based upon enrollment of all registered schools. Your school’s division will be indicated on your team confirmation.
CATEGORIES: WFCA events, employing WFCA rules, will be used with the following notations: a). Prose and Poetry Interpretation, Oral Interp and Farrago may be memorized, but a manuscript must be used. WALKING IS NOT ALLOWED, except during transitional sequences. b). Play Acting and Group Interpretation have 12 minute time limits. c). Solo Acting (10 min. time limit) will be divided into Serious and Humorous. USE OF A CHAIR IS NOT ALLOWED. d). Oratory is permitted a 10 minute time limit. Notes are NOT allowed!! e). Group Discussion will be offered. As questions have arisen about Group Discussion topic areas, please refer to the WFCA website at www.wfcaforensics.org for the relevant topic areas.
FOLLOW-UP: IMPROMPTU SPEAKING will once again be offered as a consolation event for those students eliminated after preliminary rounds of competition. Tentatively 2 preliminary rounds and a final round will be held with awards offered to all finalists. No extra charge will be assessed.
STUDENT CONGRESS: (SEE CONGRESS INVITATION AT www.wfcaforensics.org) -Entries are NOT part of the 25 entry allotment and scores WILL NOT be counted toward team sweepstakes. -ONE competent school judge must be available to serve as scorer and/or parliamentarian. -Complete the entire Congress registration form and send to the Congress Director.
-Legislation is to be received by the Congress Director NO LATER THAN Thursday, April 10, 2008 JUDGES: Each school is asked to provide one competent judge for every five entries or fraction thereof. Therefore, 5 total entries = 1 judge, 16 total entries = 4 judges, etc. Judges not provided by member schools must be hired at a cost of $100.00 for the day.
SCHEDULE: To accommodate the large number of schools attending the WFCA State Tournament the following schedule has been established. PLEASE ADHERE TO THIS SCHEDULE TO AVOID UNWANTED DELAYS!
REGISTRATION: 7:30 – 8:15AM SATURDAY JUDGES’ MEETING (MANDATORY!): 8:15 EXTEMP/RADIO DRAW (RD. 1) 8:30 ROUND 1 ALL OTHER EVENTS: 9:00 SHUTTLES WILL BE ROUND 2 ALL EVENTS: 10:15 PROVIDED!!! ROUND 3 ALL EVENTS: 11:25 SEMI-FINALS: 1:10 PM FINALS: 3:10 AWARDS CEREMONY: 5:10 AMENITIES: (FOOD/DRINK): Concession stands will be available throughout the day.
LODGING: Ripon is within a short drive of Green Lake, Fond du Lac and even Oshkosh for those teams wishing to make lodging accommodations for the weekend.
MOMENTOS: Semi-finalists will receive a marble paperweight with the forensic medal, and all finalists will receive a plaque acknowledging position and event.
FEES: The entry fee for this year’s tournament is $6 FOR EACH INDIVIDUAL ENTRY AND $10 FOR EACH GROUP (DUO, GR. INTERP AND PLAY ACTING) ENTRY. STUDENT CONGRESS FEES ARE ADDITIONAL. Drops must be reported, but will not be refunded. Payments for adds prior to the deadline must be made before registration is allowed. NO JV TEAMS ACCEPTED AT THIS TOURNAMENT!!

If you prefer your confirmation to be sent to a site other than your e-mail, please indicate on your registration form. NOTE: If anyone on your team possesses special needs (wheelchair, podium etc.), PLEASE note this on your registration, so we may attempt to accommodate these requests
