Venus Cooper, New London High School Recipient - Ron Steinhorst Scholarship
Venus has participated in a long and varied list of events, including oral interp, solo humorous, solo serious, play acting, prose, poetry, student congress, declamation, debate, and oratory. She has been a regular fixture in final rounds ever since joining her team in sophomore year. She is an accomplished musician, and a team leader. Venus has served as a forensics liaison to her community, and has presented forensics demonstrations for teachers at her school. Her coach applauds her "I can do that" attitude. This attitude was never more evident than when she won the title of 2002 Grand National Champion at the NCFL tournament in Pittsburgh in May, 2002.
Michelle Tellock, Hortonville High School Recipient - Marie Chelmo Memorial Scholarship
Michelle has been involved with forensics since 6th grade. She has participated in more than a dozen categories, from demonstration to debate, and from farrago to extemp. Ranked first in her graduating class, she has been involved with student council, school musicals, 4-H, and is a National Merit Finalist. Her coach says that she represents the very best things about Wisconsin forensics. Her college plans are to fulfill a lifelong dream of becoming a doctor.
Stephanie Jochman, Sheboygan North High School
Stephanie plans to pursue a career in teaching. She works as a forensics team captain to inspire her teammates to "be hungry," and to savor victory and continue to improve. A participant in special occasion and oratory, she also plays flute in the school band and is a yearbook editor. She is active in her church as a lector and music minister. Her coach describes her as one of the most positive-minded, pleasant and considerate people he knows.
Troy Vosseller, Marquette University High School
Troy has seen a passion for forensics lead him to try five different categories in the past seven years. In addition to a successful forensics history, which includes reaching the WFCA state finals twice (now three times), he has been a three year member of his school's varsity football team, a trumpet player in his school band, and an active service volunteer both in his own community and as far away as Quito, Equador. He is an Eagle Scout and president of his senior class. His coach says that it is by his example that many of the younger members of his team have learned what commitment to forensics really means. He says he does it for his coach's home baked cookies.
