The WFCA's mission is "to instill and develop in students communication skills vital for a lifetime of effective participation in a democratic society." To that end, the WFCA promotes the interests of Wisconsin interscholastic forensics by assisting in the regulation and improvement of forensic practices and by serving as a forum for the airing of opinions concerning forensic activities. Spring Meeting and 40th Anniversary Celebration
The WFCA 2010 Spring Meeting and 40th Anniversary Celebration were held the weekend of May 1 in Wisconsin Dells.
The proposal for double-entries at the state tournament was not approved, and minor bylaw updates were approved.
Jodi Becker concluded her term as Past-President, and Kelsey Palmer concluded her term as treasurer and will be attending graduate school in the fall. David Wyatt of Nicolet was elected as President-Elect, and Peter Woods of Marquette was elected for a two-year term as Treasurer.
The provisional calendar of invitational tournaments was presented and will be finalized at the fall meeting.
The anniversary program included reflections by Bonni Knight and Ron Steinhorst, a keynote address by Doris and Steve Sexton, and performances by past state champions: Maeta Burns-Penn, Conner Hutchins, Anna-Lisa Dahlgren, and Philip Bridge. Jim Berger led the WFCA Anniversary Song and the program concluded with a video presentation from Heidi Wacker. The evening continued with music, dancing, and karaoke.
Topics for Moments in History, Public Address, Special Occasion, Storytelling and Group Discussion have been submitted by the WFCA Category Committee and are pending approval at the fall meeting on September 18, 2010.
